Roosevelt. I am sure you have fond memories of your former home in Washington. Randle B. Truett 27 Dec. 49. Truett was chief historian for the National Park Service from 1930-1932, and later taught American history and political science at the University of Louisville. He authored several books on Americana, including Lincoln in Philately (1959), Lee’s Mansion (1943), and First Ladies in Fashion (1954). Truett’s historical bent is evident in the arrangement of the illustrations. He starts with the eighteenth century models that architect James Hoban used in designing the Executive Mansion, and follows these with drawings by Latrobe, early 19th sketches of the White House, a photo from Lincoln’s tenure, and comparisons photos that show the great changes made to the interior and exterior of the White House following the two major renovations carried out by Eleanor’s uncle Presidents Theodore Roosevelt and by the man who succeeded her husband, Harry Truman.
